Just Live on Moon
Just Live on Moon
"Will moon be colonized by man?" Just live on the moon? That was the question hurled at those who made a request for something that was well nigh impossible to get. But now with the change of time it seems to be possible and one can now well imagine that he can live on moon in near future. It was only in 1969, that Neil Armstrong of the United States was fortunate to land and walk on moon. He had uttered the now world famous historic sentence 'a step of man is a giant leap forward for mankind' or words to that effect. It was a day to be proud of.
Now, forty years thereafter, another major step forward has been taken by India. Chandrayaan I, Our space vehicle to moon, , has discovered that there is water on moon. Water one of the basic requirements is thus now available on moon. The discovery of water on moon has opened new avenues of research about space and thus possibility of life on moon. The scientists say that future missions to moon will be cheaper as water need not be carried from earth.
A word of caution to our idealist fellow citizen and citizens of other countries is necessary. Water on moon does not mean that there is an ocean or a lake or a river there. No such thing is believable at present. Right now, we are excited because moon that was considered bone dry has given evidence that water is embedded in the rocks there. Right now we assume water as H2O that is two parts of hydrogen and one part of oxygen make the fluid named water. However, on moon it is just one part oxygen and one part hydrogen and the code is OH. As far as volume of water available on moon is concerned, it can be measured in 'spoon' and not in gallons or litres; the question of having a bucketful of water for bath does not arise at present. To an estimate, one ton of top layer surface of moon may give us 32 ounces of water. Anyway, volume of water available on moon should not discourage us in any way. The mere fact that now water has been discovered on dry moon is an encouraging fact in itself.
"Will moon be colonized by man?" The answer is: It is too early to say anything on the subject at this point of time. Anyway, there is no harm in dreaming about a rest on moon or just go there for a picnic. One may have to do with a spoonful of water a day and just forget about a bath in a luxury Hamam. Seriously speaking, it is time to pray for a bright tomorrow when man will be not only on moon but also on Mars.
